3D Ultra Pinball Back to Software Page

    Description:

    3-D Ultra Pinball- from

    Game Information: Minimum Requirements:
Title: 3-D Ultra Pinball (MAC CD-ROM)Processor: 25MHz 68030 or faster
    Publisher: Sierra On-Line; (800) 757-7707 RAM: 8 MB (5 MB available)
Display: any 256-color monitor (13" up)
Other Requirements: System 7.0+, 2X speed CD-ROM drive.

    Recommended:
    68040/33 MHz Macintosh
    8 MB available RAM
    4X CD-ROM drive
    14-inch monitor

    Overview:
Pinball is back in a BIG way with Sierra's 3-D Ultra Pinball (3-D). Snap back the plunger, then let it rip--sending that sorry sphere packing to 3 animated playfields: a cavernous space mine, a gritty command post, and "The Colony" (shown below).

All three boards feature 3 playing fields each (each with 2 flippers), and when you get balls in each one (during a multi-ball session), it can get really hairy! With a SCI-FI, synth-tech soundtrack rockin' in the background, sound effects abounding, and very smooth and life-like pinball animation, 3-D has forged ahead of past computer pinball games.

    The Game:
The game starts with a quicktime movie that gives you a taste of the "balls-eye view". Once at the splash screen, you have a choice of setting the preferences, viewing the high scores, on-line help, etc. The menus above the screen are also available for similar functions. In the prefs, you can choose your flipper buttons, plunger release button, and the "nudge" button. You also can mix the sound effects with the background music (a different soundtrack for each board), choose the number of players (up to 4), and choose the number of balls per game (3 or 5). Of course, in pinball, there are NEVER enough balls!

The on-line manual is truly amazing. It gives you all the information you need regarding the story-line/objective (yes there is one). It also offers complete skill shot tips and strategic hints on how to earn bonus points, extra balls, and hit all the game's key targets. It would be a good idea (after your initial play-time of 3-D, to read the manual in order to find out what you're trying to accomplish.

The overall goal is to make it through all 3 "levels" or boards and launch a starship. This is a task that will not come easily...even with 5 balls. Like playing any new pinball machine for the first time, you start by having no idea how fast the bumpers will ricochet your ball, how the flippers will react to your reactions, or how much nudging it takes to tilt the machine. There are times when 3 balls are out at once (multi-ball session). Add that confusion with 3 sets of flippers and you've got one addictive game!
You have the opportunity (sometimes requiring a skill with you against the clock) to earn extra balls, earn "continuations" (continue a game with 5 more balls but zero score), get 10 million points, or get other items relavent to the object of the game. There is an "invincability" mode earned after a certain point. This mode fills in the seemingly GIGANTIC GAP between the 2 main flippers for a brief period of time.

4 x 4 Evolution Back to Software Page

    Description:

Terminal Reality proudly presents 4x4 Evolution, an arcade-style, 4x4 off-road simulation for the Mac. 4x4 Evolution puts virtual drivers behind the wheel of their favorite real world SUV and/or truck and challenges them to race through a variety of detailed off-road environments. 4x4 Evolution supports Internet multi-player options between Sega Dreamcast, Mac and PC.

4x4 Evolution takes gamers for a rough off-road ride through a total of 15 courses, each with its own distinctive design, music score and difficulty level. In addition to contending with the other vehicles, players will be challenged by a variety of variables such as gates, trees, and tractors in junkyards or on-coming traffic in construction zones. Virtual drivers choose their own path as they begin with a base truck and compete in a series of off-road races to win cash. Drivers can stop and rewind the action through a playback feature and can view the whole race again from multiple camera angles, and even different racers' perspectives. Players can also use GameSpy's Buddy system for instant messaging and keeping track of their fellow drivers.

Here are a few reasons to play 4x4 Evolution:

    Offroad Action
Taking the term “off road” to the extreme, gamers can drive anywhere within each of the 15 gorgeous vast areas which replicate zones from painted deserts to treacherous mountaintops to tropical island chains. A race course consists of checkpoints strewn along the countryside. Drivers choose their own paths while negotiating whatever terrain lies between Point A and Point B.

    Cross-Platform Multiplayer
4x4 Evolution is the first game EVER that allows Dreamcast, PC, and Mac users to compete against each other in heated online play. The PC and Mac version will support up to eight players over the Internet or a LAN, while up to four Sega Dreamcast players can compete. In addition, two gamers can race split-screen on the Sega Dreamcast, and can also go online in split-screen online mode. Terminal Reality will offer a free downloadable track editor that allows PC gamers to create their own tracks. Gamers on all three platforms will be able to easily download and play custom-built online only "Lite" levels, and use the Chat System to converse with other drivers. In "Time Trial" mode, players on all platforms can download the best lap that another driver has submitted, then race against the image of that person's truck, which shows exactly how that person drove to achieve such a great lap time.

    Real Vehicles
4x4 Evolution's 70+ licensed vehicles are incredibly detailed and accurate versions of their real-life counterparts. From tailgate to brush guard, each 4x4 in the game looks and drives exactly like it does on (and off!) the road. A truck's personality and performance is subject to its owner's whims as well. Drivers buy their truck at the showroom, but competition purses and hidden treasures stashed in the outback will provide drivers with the funds they need to buy upgrade parts and equipment such as heavy-duty off-road suspension, brush guards, performance exhaust, and special off-road racing tires. And if a 4x4 just isn't performing to its driver's standards, it can always be taken to the garage for some in-depth tweaking.

    Serious Competition
The competition in 4x4 Evolution doesn't cheat--it doesn't have to. Instead of adhering to preset racelines, the game's expert AI drivers navigate the courses just like the gamers, from checkpoint to checkpoint, only faster and smarter. These ruthless drivers can analyze and react to any driving situation and will take every opportunity to slam gamers off course to ensure them of one less contender for the trophy.

    Insane Graphics
4x4 Evolution's visuals scream with realism, with shadows reflecting the time of day (four from which to choose), three different weather conditions, highlights glinting from polished chrome and fresh showroom paint, and the sun dazzling and blinding drivers as it peeks through looming crests. Splats of debris and mud erupt through thick clouds of road dust, and amazing wakes and rooster tails disturb the glassy surface as trucks crash through rivers and streams.

    Real World Physics
Each of the courses is thickly populated with objects and obstacles, some that move under their own power, and some that require a nudge. Terminal Reality's real-time, real-world physics modeler was used for everything from the farm fences drivers blow through to the powerful express locomotives that stop for no one. Trucks feature super-accurate suspensions that dip and react to every mogul and sinkhole. Drivers will find themselves leaning to anticipate hard turns and steering for all they're worth as they rock and jolt along with the unforgiving terrain.

Another War takes place during World War 2 in Nazi-occupied Europe. It is a colorful story of an adventurer, involved in his own private war in those darkest of times. The game has a very elaborate plot, with its own brand of lively action, style and humor. You will find many allusions to classic books and movies, like "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Allo, Allo", "Catch-22", "Saving Private Ryan", and "The Dirty Dozen" amongst others.

Wanting to save his friend from the Nazis, our hero gets caught up in a bloody intrigue between the warring superpowers. The plot starts in a small town in occupied France. The only things reminding us that war is raging is the heavy presence of German gendarmerie patrols on the streets and groups of Wehrmacht soldiers on leave occupying the local cafes. However, the finale takes place in the hell of an under siege Leningrad where our hero stumbles upon one of the most secretly guarded projects run by both Soviet and German engineers.

Another War's interface is modeled on those of classic cRPG games, mainly on the Baldur's Gate and Fallout series. The game has 2D rendered graphics in an isometric view with pre-rendered characters. The backgrounds include many architectural and natural details in a varied environment. Uniforms, weapons and equipment have also been pictured in detail. Extended battle and character development systems have been implemented.

Another War also takes advantage of active lighting, smoke, explosions, flames and atmospheric effects as well as surround sound.

Bad Mojo Redux (The Roach Game) Back to Software Page

    Description:

    ZOOM Bad Mojo
    The Roach Game Redux
    (Win98/Me/XP/Mac) (JewelCase) (BADMOJOPR)

    Pulse Entertainment/ Got Game

    Game

Cult Classic Returns with Bonus Features!

Play Bad Mojo for a few hours and you'll never look at a cockroach the same way again. In fact, I'm not sure you'll look at anything in quite the same way after you steer your sleek-bodied, chitinous little alter ego over, under, around, and through some of the most visually disturbing, nasty terrain this side of a New Jersey garbage scow.

In Bad Mojo, the creative yahoos at Pulse Entertainment have taken Kafka's insect-metamorphosis concept and applied it to a puzzle-laced, Myst-like adventure. They've dropped the whole thing into a nauseatingly stunning landscape of dead rats, cigarette butts, rust, brackish water, and used razor blades.

But once you get over that first queasy gagging reflex, you're off on a remarkable and quite unique adventure. The game's artwork is superbly realistic, right down to your roach's shifting shadow. And there are plenty of good, solid puzzles, as well as an air of mystery that will totally captivate you.

The action is set inside a dilapidated brick building along San Francisco's waterfront. In an upstairs apartment, a rather agitated entomologist named Roger Samms is packing a suitcase full of cash, preparing for a hasty exit out of the country. But when he picks up an antique locket, it's Bad Mojo time--a twisted spell suddenly transforms him into a cockroach.

That's all you've got to go on as you begin to explore six different rooms in the grimy, garbage-ridden building. You're not quite sure what you're supposed to do, but you are very sure that you don't like being Roger the Roach.

Navigating as a roach through a rundown building offers an entirely new perspective on life and all sorts of life threats, from aggressive rats and spiders to a gas burner or a slab of flypaper. Roaches, on the whole, may ultimately outlive all of humanity and inherit the earth, but individual roaches lead nasty, solitary, brutal lives. Especially in Bad Mojo.

Success in the game requires that you understand your limitations. Your arms are too short to box with anybody, so don't look for any Mortal Kombat-style combo attacks or finishing moves. You're a roach. About all you can do is use your head...in more ways than one. In addition to thinking creatively, you'll also have to push things around with your little noggin. Useless bottle caps become bridges if pushed in the right direction. And just imagine what you can do with a cigarette butt.

Part of Bad Mojo's appeal is being able to see the world through different eyes. One of the ingenious elements throughout the game is how the designers force you to think differently about your surrounding environment. Rarely can you solve puzzles by obvious, human means.

Another engaging aspect of the game is the allure of the mystery itself. Immediately there are the obvious questions--Why Roger? Why a roach?--but soon, a larger mystery begins to unfold as you receive clues from an oracle who helps you along the way. There are also a few kindred insect spirits who provide other pieces of information.

But for the most part you'll be entertained by using your little roach wits to figure out how to solve the various puzzles in each of the six rooms. The puzzles are mostly very well constructed and fair. By this I mean that you don't run into puzzles that are completely unsolvable or require such arcane knowledge as the name of Jupiter's third moon. This isn't to say that the puzzles are easy. But they're not impossible.

Clearly, some gamers are not going to enjoy Bad Mojo's dirty, rundown, disgusting universe. And those who found Myst simply too static and slow-moving to enjoy will feel the same way about Bad Mojo. But with its exceptionally well-crafted artwork, the subtle complexities within its puzzles, and its unique atmosphere of mystery, I found myself completely drawn in.

Give this little roach game a chance to work its mojo on you.

Baldur's Gate takes you back to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting on a visually dazzling roleplaying adventure, one that brings to life the grand tradition of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game through cutting edge art and technology. Immerse yourself in this quintessential medieval fantasy world, where nations hang in the balance of your actions, dark prophecies test your resolve, and heroic dreams can be fulfilled at last.

Huge game world - multi-CD set filled with nearly 10,000 scrolling game screens, all fully rendered in lush 16-bit SVGA graphics.

Gripping non-linear adventure that spans seven chapters, with dozens of subplots that branch in and out of the main scenario. Your decisions affect subsequent chapters and the entire game world as a whole.

Transparent interface can be modified to play in a turn based fashion, and makes it possible to play without knowing AD&D rules.

Set in TSR's best-selling Forgotten Realms campaign setting, the most popular and longest running of the Advanced Dungeon & Dragons roleplaying game worlds.

"I am Volo, and I have traveled more of these Realms than any other. I'd bet ye a bag of gold and a half-dozen kegs of bitter black ale that ye cannot look upon the murderous beasts and minions of evil in the adventure ye hold in your hand and not turn tail. So waste no more time in your drab, humdrum world - it is time to draw steel in Baldur's Gate and test your mettle. Who knows, ye may find me there waiting to pay off the bet - or propose a better one, double or nothing!"

Explore hundreds of intricately rendered buildings and structures.

Face off against more than 60 imposing monsters, including cunning hobgoblins and mighty ogres.

View characters in exquisite detail, down to skin and hair color, clothing, weapons and armor.

Invoke more than 100 spells - freeze enemies with an icy blast from a cone of cold, or incinerate them with a searing stream of magical flame.

Every building and structure is modeled and rendered in fine detail - taverns, temples, houses, arenas, stores, and brothels are meticulously created and visually stunning.

Features real-time environmental effects such as rain, snow, lightning, and fog, day and night lighting, plus dynamic full-color lighting effects from interior and exterior lamps and magic spells.

Create your character from a combination of six authentic AD&D races - human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, gnome, halfling - and 26 different classes and subclasses - fighter, thief, cleric, mage and subclasses such as druid and specialist mage.

Guide a party of up to five other characters, each with their own personalities and dispositions. Allows you to control party characters one at a time or as a group.

Black & White: Creature Isle Expansion Pack Back to Software Page

    Description:

You can never have too much of a good thing, so if you've got Black & White, get more of it. Creature Isle is an add-on to Black & White (that means you need to have Black & White to play Creature Isle), which takes some of the best bits and turns them into a whole new world.

Take your Black & White Creature to a completely new land, to face trials, foes and tests like you never imagined before. Has your Creature got it in him - and are you good enough - to make it into the fabled, coveted Brotherhood?

If you've got Black & White, it's time to visit the Creature Isle.

    Profile

The alert among you will be wondering how Creature Isle is different to Black &White. Well, we could just tell you to buy it and find out, but because we're not like that, here's what it's all about:

In Creature Isle, you must complete a number of Trials (there are more than twenty-five) to convince the members of the Brotherhood that your Creature is worthy to join them. The difference between these and the challenges of Black & White, is that the Trials are deliberately set by the Creatures - aha.

This means that Creature Isle isn't so much a test of morality, but depends more on the skills of the player (that's you). Some require thought, like hunting the invisible wolf or the outwitting of the blind hermit, others demand quick reactions and accuracy, like the tiger's cannon or the cow's bowling trial.

But that's not all... You can use your Creature to find and train a new Creature pet of his own. Between you, you'll have to rear him, teach him and decide what sort of Creature he'll grow up to be. And if you look after him well, you'll be rewarded. Training this 'pet' is also a prelude to fatherhood, as the female Creatures will watch to see if your Creature would make a good father.

None of this means that you get to shake off responsibility - you're ultimately responsible for the behaviour of your Creature and his pet, and there are still godly duties to perform. Like in Black &White, there are Followers who you must keep happy and allow to thrive. But here, you're the only god and luckily, both your Creature and his pet can help.

    Key Features

Black & White Creature Isle features a whole new world, an abundance of new Challenges and a host of gameplay improvements:

Bring your Creature from Black &White, or be given a Creature with the necessary skills for you to play the land. (But you will need a copy of Black & White in order to play Creature Isle).

Your Creature gets a Creature of his own to rear as he chooses (with a little help from you).

Your Creature's 'pet' will be unique, learning, growing and acting according to you and your Creature - you can even use him to help you.

There are new Creatures to discover, including the sharp-toothed Crocodile and the mighty horned Rhinoceros.

Enter into frenzied combat with the whole range of Creatures on the Creature Isle. See new fighting styles and use special moves and powers.

Tackle some of the most fun Trials you'll ever experience.

Play games, take on fiendish puzzles of mind and might, win bonus games and even play sports, including bowling and soccer.

Find love! For the first time, the chance to meet the female Creature of your dreams. Your Creature might be smitten with her, but will she feel the same way about him? That depends...

Ultimately, win the coveted wrist bracelet - the Band of the Brotherhood - for your Creature. Players will be able to see this online and will know instantly that their opponent is highly skilled and elite.

As this epic story unfolds, you can choose to rule a realm of darkness and despair with powerful miracles and godly actions. Terrorize your followers and send your giant Creature to stamp your twisted decisions on the world.

    Welcome to Creature Isle

You can never have too much of a good thing, so if you've got Black & White, get more of it. Creature Isle is an add-on to Black & White (that means you need to have Black & White to play Creature Isle), which takes some of the best bits and turns them into a whole new world.

Take your Black & White Creature to a completely new land, to face trials, foes and tests like you never imagined before. Has your Creature got it in him - and are you good enough - to make it into the fabled, coveted Brotherhood?

If you've got Black & White, it's time to visit the Creature Isle.

    Bugdom Back to Software Page

Bugdom is an incredibly diverse 3D game for your Macintosh computer which is great for the entire family. Many people ask us what age group Bugdom is targeted at, but that's a difficult question to answer because it seems that all age groups are playing the game. We've heard of children as young as 4 playing the game, and there have been many adults well into their 60's who have bought the game for themselves to play as well.

    THE STORY

The Bugdom was once a peaceful place ruled by the Rollie Pollies and the Lady Bugs, but not long ago the Bugdom was overthrown by the clan of the Fire Ants. After recruiting other bugs to help fight for them, they captured all of the Lady Bugs and are holding them prisoner. The leader of the Fire Ants, the new king of the Bugdom, is King Thorax. Once he is defeated, the Bugdom will return to the peaceful place it used to be.

You are Rollie McFly, the only remaining bug capable of saving the Lady Bugs and restoring peace to the Bugdom. Rollie has been hiding in the Lawn area of the Bugdom and will need to travel far to get to the Ant Hill where the battle with King Thorax must take place. There will be water to cross, bugs to ride, and plenty of enemy forces to defeat, but once the Fire Ants and King Thorax have been defeated, you will become the new ruler of the Bugdom and peace will be restored.

  • Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete
In Minotaur, players must gather an array of weapons and magical tools in order to defeat the other players. The graphics are entirely two-dimensional, the effects are dismal at best, and the game only supports network play.
  • Abuse
In Abuse, players must save the world by destroying mutants and defeating each and every one of the many side-scrolling levels.
  • The entire Marathon saga

    Burn:Cycle Back to Software Page

    Description:

    BURN: CYCLE

    by Philips Media

Cinematic adventure game meets Blade Runner-style action.

Here are excerpts from Game Revolution's web review, where they gave the game an "A-":

"Cutter braced his back against the cool concrete wall that formed one half of the hallway leading to his hotel room. Gun leveled, he struggled to keep his burning sweat from running into his eyes and ruining his aim. Nowhere to turn, nowhere to run, and all the while one thought kept crashing through his mind: "I'VE ONLY GOT NINETY MINUTES LEFT TO LIVE."

Sol Cutter thought he was just making a routine data run into Softech Industries, but instead of getting away clean and simple with some stolen goods, a wetwired burn:cycle virus was implanted in his brain, and he now has but two hours left to figure out who did this to him and why, before he drops dead with no questions answered and none more to ask.

So begins BURN:CYCLE, Philips' CD-ROM action adventure game for the PC and Macintosh. Remind you of any...Hollywood cyberflicks? I thought so.

Typical of the new breed of mind-boggling adventure games, BURN:CYCLE incorporates a lot of video sequences and live actor voices to tell the story of an infoburgler who's in deeper than he's ever been before. Environments...all morph smoothly as Cutter navigates through the corrupt, decaying city of the future in a Quicktime VR-type effect. The result is a highly-believable landscape that thoroughly engulfs the player. You are Cutter, and you don't have that long to live.

The puzzles that make up the challenge of BURN:CYCLE are not your run-of-the-mill quests to find the magical potion to turn a frog back into a prince, but they take...brainpower to solve, as well as a lot of trial and error. Yet even as you study the floating karmic shapes or flying game pieces, the ever-present virus clock keeps ticking away the precious second's of Sol Cutter's life. And through it all, everything has that slightly twisted and surreal Cyberpunk feel to it.

BURN:CYCLE [has] an approach so sorely missed by hundreds of game titles out there. Simple to play but difficult to win, the game refuses to be put down for long. Every character has genuine personality to him or her, which completes a very well-crafted universe. So, how much longer do you have left to live?"
